Missouri Reporter Receives NCRA's 2006 Legislative Activist of the Year Award

Presentation by NCRA President Merilyn Marquardt-Sanchez
Made at Boot Camp on February 28, 2006

"It is my honor to recognize this year's Legislative Activist of the Year.  This award is presented each year to a reporter who has been recognized by their state association members and peers as an individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to improve the court reporting, captioning, and CART professions in their state and nationwide.

"This year's recipient has moved their way up through the ranks of their state association and has served on statewide and national committees that have impacted the court reporting profession.  This individual is well-known and respected throughout their state association as someone that reporters can depend on not only for advice but for outstanding leadership.  Also, this year's recipient is known as someone who can bring diverse groups of people together and have them all work as a team.

"When the individual's state association was pursuing certification, this individual worked with state bar associations, their lobbyist, and other key contacts to successfully implement mandatory state certification.

"This individual takes an active role in the court reporting profession by regularly e-mailing news articles and other items to NCRA and reporters nationwide on issues that are impacting the profession.

"On a national level, this individual has honed her leadership and legislative skills at numerous Leadership and Boot Camp seminars.  With the knowledge she has gained, she has encouraged many reporters to become leaders as well.

"She has also participated in NCSA (the National Committee of State Associations) as Vice Chair and now as Chair.  Yes, now many of you know who I am talking about!  In her role, she has significantly increased the communication between NCSA, the Board and NCRA through the Listserv.

"In 2004, our recipient participated in NCRA's Strategic Planning Committee as well as the Annual Planning Committee.  She also participated in the National Center for State Courts 2005 Assembly of Court Associations, as well as Court Technology Conferences 8 and 9, the only national conference dedicated to court technology.

"Our recipient works for the first female circuit court judge in her state.  She has been with the same judge for 24 years and has said that she and the judge have never had a disagreement.  Well, knowing this year's recipient, we sure know why!!

"As you can see, Diana's dedication to the court reporting profession over the past 20 years has been unwavering.  Let's congratulate Diana Taylor as the 2006 Legislative Activist of the Year!"

MCRA is honored to have one of its own to be the recipient of such a prestigious award.  Diana has been a dedicated participant in furthering the goals and aspirations of both the state and national organizations.  Her enthusiasm for reporting and commitment to the profession make her a very deserving winner.  Diana was presented with an eagle award and a flag that had flown over the Capitol.  Congratulations, Diana!
